Machaba Camp is situated in the game rich Khwai area, on the eastern tongue of the Okavango Delta, and have been built on the same site as the previous Machaba camp. The name Machaba is the local Setswana name for the Sycamore Fig Tree - the tree of life. The Machaba tree abounds in the Okavango Delta and most African riverine forests.
Machaba trees are renowned for their abundant fruit, which feed a diverse number of animals throughout the year, including elephant, baboon, bush buck, green pigeons and many more… The camp is small, and is in the Classical safari mode – with only 10 luxury tents, this is an intimate Camp. The tents are situated long the beautiful riverine treeline on the Khwai River, all overlooking the famed Moremi Game Reserve. From the tented verandas guests can enjoy the daily parade of animals coming down to drink at the river in front of camp. Accommodation at Machaba consists of 8 luxury twin tents and 2 luxury family tents. Children of all ages are welcome at the camp. Please note that a private vehicle will need to be booked for families with children under the age of 6 years old. The tents are all en-suite, and have living areas, and all boast a romantic outdoor shower. All the tents are situated on the ground and the pathways to the tents meander between the large riverine trees. During your leisure time at the Camp, enjoy the swimming pool, relax on the loungers and take in the atmosphere. Machaba Camp is aimed at the affordable luxury market - offering great value for money and a unique classical safari experience. Machaba Camp appeals to the novice safari guest as well as to the seasoned safari traveller. It is in an area known for excellent wildlife, both in number and diversity, and you explore the area on extensive game drives. |
