Botswana Camps and Lodges
Botswana's Safari accommodation is surprisingly varied...even the humble tent takes on depth and variety (from the humble dome to luxurious, air-conditioned splendour.
Much of the accommodation on offer is the traditional tented safari experience: large, walk-in tents, usually erected on wooden platforms, with private en-suite showers, wash hand basins and flush toilets. Many properties also make use of local materials, include reed, mud and thatch - and such properties usually have a particularly ''green'' footprint.
In terms of power, some of the lodges in the northern Chobe do have access to the grid, but most properties rely on generators and/ or (increasingly) solar power.
All bedding is provided, along with towels, insect repellent and basic toiletries such as shampoos, soaps and conditioners. Beds are extremely comfortable, and generally there is a choice between twin or double beds. A good number of properties now also offer family units (accommodating 2 adults and 2 children). Honeymoon accommodation is also very popular - and the accommodation tends to be larger, often with an outdoor bath. Most camps do offer an outside shower - open to the elements above, making for a truly magical experience.
