Mankwe Bush Lodge is set in a large private concession (some 3 000 square kilometres) on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, and is adjacent to the border of the Moremi Game Reserve, making it well positioned for extensive game viewing and the lack of fences allows for free-roaming wildlife, resident lion, and an abundance of elephant.
Mankwe is set amongst large mopane trees, and offers a quality experience. Accommodation is in 10 en suite Meru-style tents, each of which is set on a raised wooden platform, with extended private deck. Each of the tents sleeps 2 persons (twin or double configuration), and has a shower, toilet, and simple bathroom vanity complete with complimentary soap, shampoo and lotion. A drop-down canvas flap services to close off the bathroom from the bedroom. The windows and front entrance of the tent are shielded with bug-proof mesh screens and canvas flaps. The camp relies on solar-power throughout. The main area At Mankwe is under a Moroccan inspired open-sided canvas rook and houses the lounge, bar, and dining area, and is centrally located. Adjacent to the central area is a camp fire, in the Boma area, which is a wonderful place for pre- and post-dinner drinks. Safari activities at Mankwe are by way of extensive game drives, both in the concession and as day trips into the Moremi Game Reserve itself. The concession sees some excellent game viewing, and species include elephant, cape buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, and wild dog. As the lodge is in a private concession, night drives are also available, which is a wonderful way in which to enjoy this fascinating area. Birding, too, is highly rewarding in the concession – and guests can see a good variety of water birder, raptors and some of the smaller species. Mankwe is the perfect place from which to begin a journey into the Delta, where there are many islands dotted throughout the myriad of waterways. |
