Located in the Eastern Caprivi, Zambezi Province of Namibia, a narrow strip of land on the northern bank of the Chobe River, Chobe Savanna Lodge overlooks the vast floodplains of the Chobe National Park’s Puku Flats. This location is unique, and the setting is simply breath-taking. The Chobe River is home to large herds of Elephant, Buffalo and Hippo, as well as dense concentrations of other wildlife – including the rare Puku antelope – which come down to the river’s edge to drink and graze.
Day 4 Chobe River
As this is a water-based lodge, guests have a choice of aquatic activities. Chobe River excursions in small, easily manoeuvrable boats are ideal for close encounters with the wildlife which quenches their thirst at the water’s edge.
Fishing on a catch-and-release basis, for Bream or Tiger Fish is a firm favourite with guests of all ages. Cultural visits to a local village where one can watch the ancient heritage of the local people.
Chobe Savanna Lodge is the perfect spot to relax, bask in the sun, whilst watching the wildlife and birds in one of the most spectacular settings imaginable.
Day 5 Okavango Delta
After being boated back to Kasane Immigration, you will be transferred to Kasane Airport, where a light aircraft flight will take you to Kadizora Camp, 70 minutes away, across the Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta.
The Okavango Delta represents one of the last truly unspoilt wilderness areas in Africa, and remains one of nature's marvels, characterised by the gentle flooding of endless plains. The northern regions of the Delta feature larger expanses of savannah punctuated by lagoons and tributaries, and it is on the banks of one of these that an excellent site has been selected for Kadizora Camp. Set on the grassy wetlands of the remote Okavango, Kadizora Camp lies in a game-rich private concession. Such a location gives guests the opportunity to enjoy guided walking safaris as well as game viewing by 4X4. It’s also a place to sit back in a mokoro, the local canoe, and let the Okavango float by.
Days 6 and 7 Okavango Delta
Activities at Kadizora Camp include morning mekoro trips (dugout canoes) with island walks, and afternoon game drives. Fishing is offered on request and in season. Boat activities are also offered between April and October. There is the option to arrange a day trip to a traditional village. Visit the church, the clinic, local Primary school and meet family members of the camp staff.
A permanent life giving swamp, the Okavango Delta rises in the Angolan Highlands, and enters Botswana below Namibia’s Caprivi Strip region. It was once a part of Lake Makgadikgadi, but is now home to over 200 000 large mammals, many of which migrate during the summer rains and return during the cooler and dryer winter months.
This part of the Okavango Delta is home to mammals such as: lions, cheetahs, leopards, wild dog, elephants, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, hyena, zebra, kudu, impala and many more! This aquatic region is also home to various bird, insect, fish and plant species - making it a safari paradise.
For an additional cost, a hot air balloon safari can be arranged from Kadizora Camp – a magical way of experiencing this truly beautiful part of Africa. (April – September).
Day 8 Khwai Area
After your morning activity and brunch, you will be chartered from Kadizora Camp to Khwai Airstrip where you will be met and transferred to Saguni Safari Lodge.
Saguni Safari Lodge (the local name for Khwai – and meaning area of good game) in the eastern Okavango Delta, set in a private concession, adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve. The Lodge sits on an island of mature trees, and is typical for the area.
The Lodge overlooks the Mbudi Lagoon, and the accommodation consists of 9 Forest Tents and 8 Luxury River Tents. All of which are custom-designed and have been placed for guests to get the best of the setting. All of the tents are en suite, and enjoy great views.
The main lodge area is extensive and houses the lounge, bar and dining area. This main area then extends to the central deck and fire pit. The bar has been carefully positioned both to enjoy views of the lagoon and to make the most of the Delta sunset.
Days 9 and 10 Khwai Area
Saguni offers a variety of game viewing activities, which you can enjoy during your stay. There are open vehicle game drives, which can be enjoyed by day and night. This enhances the number of species that might be seen - lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe. Night drives tend to provide some of the more dramatic and unusual game viewing, as they provide access to nocturnal species - particularly hippo, bush babies, chameleon, aardvarks and leopard are more active after dark.
Conversely, on a bush walk, you have the opportunity to observe the smaller things of nature - both the fauna and flora - that you might miss on a game drive. The knowledgeable guides explain animal tracks, bush skills and natural remedies used by local people in the area.
In total contrast, you can also experience a tranquil mokoro (traditional dug out canoe) trip with carefully trained specialist guides. Glide along the fascinating Mbudi water channels of Khwai. This stunning area is known as the Sable Alley system of the Khwai river. Listen to call of various bird species, and the tinkling of the reed frog as you discover the local plant and animal life.
Trips into the San community of Khwai can also be arranged. The San people, also known as Bushmen or Basarwa, are members of various indigenous hunter-gatherer people of Southern Africa. As the original inhabitants of Southern Africa, the San lived for millennia as independent hunters and gatherers.
