Sable Alley Lodge is situated on the banks of a peaceful lagoon, on the southern boundary of the Khwai Private Wildlife Reserve – which is a community based joint venture partnership. Set in 200,000 hectares, Sable Alley overlooks the lagoon and floodplains stretching towards the unfenced boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve.
Accommodation is in 10 twin and 2 family tents, all of which are en-suite. The tents are all solar powered and set on raised decks, each with a private veranda as well as indoor and outdoor showers, which allows for uninterrupted views of the lagoon. The family units have two comfortable interconnected tents. The main lodge area houses a lounge, dining area, outdoor lounge, and pool with extensive deck. Enjoy relaxing here and watching the resident pod of hippos in the lagoon, which also attracts good numbers of plains game, elephant and buffalo. Enjoy extensive game viewing drives in the diverse habitats of the private reserve, which includes riverine woodlands, open floodplains, rivers and mopane woodland. This range of habitats means an excellent array of wildlife, including lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, and of course the eponymous sable antelope. Sable Alley offers morning and late afternoon game drive (the latter an excellent way to see the nocturnally active species such as leopard, porcupine and honey badger), as the drive tends to return back to camp just after sunset. The Lodge also offers mekoro excursions (in a traditional dug-out canoe) – which is arguably one of the best ways to enjoy bird watching and game viewing. Boating is also available, and a highlight when water levels are high (seasonal). |
