Delta Camp is situated on a pristine, paradise-like, palm-studded island deep in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
Offering its guests a unique accommodation style, the chalets at Delta Camp are hewn from natural materials, raised off the forest floor, open-fronted, and incorporate elements of the trees which surround them. Your bed is draped with mosquito netting, and lighting is solar-powered. You will feel part of the forest environment around you. With an elevated lounge and dining area overlooking the meeting point of the Boro and Metsematsweu channels, many hours can be spent just looking across the floodplain, its beauty immeasurable. From this expansive deck you’ll likely see elephant, hippo, crocodiles, and even lion, leopard and wild dog on occasion. As pure an Okavango Delta camp as you can find, Delta Camp offers mokoro excursions and bush walks. No game drives and no motorboats. The silence whilst staying here is the attraction. Your Guide at Delta Camp will make your stay here ultra-special. One guide is assigned to every two guests for the duration of their stay, and having been born in this region of the Delta, his knowledge will amaze you. He’ll take you deep into the Delta and mesmerize you by the way in which he is able to track game. By the time you leave this magical place, the cultural experience you Guide will afford to you, even visiting his home, will stay with you for years to come. The island and surrounding islands are home to a variety of game: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus, crocodile, giraffe, many variety of antelope including the rare lechwe, tsessebe and sitatunga, otters, honey-badgers, the shy pangolin, and a variety of the smaller wild cats such as civets, servals and genets. Reptiles too – many species of snakes (most of them harmless) occur, as do several of tortoise, terrapin, lizard, skinks, chameleon and gecko – not forgetting, the Nile crocodile, of which some particularly large specimens live here. Birding is supreme in this part of the Delta - well over 450 species recorded. Delta Camp’s chefs will spoil you with three wholesome meals per day, interspersed with tantalizing snacks in-between meal times, and a bar that’s always open. Should you so wish, Delta Camp can arrange an extended, fully serviced and catered camping expedition by dug-out into the far reaches of the Okavango. After spending a night at the lodge, you will set out with all your equipment, guides and camp hands by mekoro into the Okavango for a minimum of two nights, but up to eight, camping as the whim takes you, steeping yourself in one of the world's last great wildernesses, before returning for one last night in the lodge. This activity would need to be prebooked. |
