Savute Elephant Lodge (previously known as Savute Elephant Camp) is on the banks of the Savute Channel, adjacent to the Chobe National Park. Although the channel has been dry for over 20 years, water is once again inundating this area, making it yet more interesting. The area has always been known for its abundant herds of elephant, and a number of predator species, in particular lion and leopard.
Your Botswana accommodation is in 12 twin-bedded luxury, custom made tents, recently placed under thatch. They are also on raised wooden platforms, allowing for extensive views. Each tent also boasts large, en suite bathroom facilities, which includes indoor and outdoor showers. The tents at Savute Elephant Lodge are air-conditioned, and feature overhead fans, mini-bar, and safe. Guests also enjoy the use of a private veranda, complete chairs and hammock. Savute Elephant Lodge also has its own traditional Boma, where guests can relax in the evening and swap safari experiences. Activities revolve around the early morning and afternoon game drives at this Botswana Lodge. The Savute area of Chobe National Park is surprising diverse, and home to a number of plains game, including thousands of zebra, during the seasonal migration from Linyanti (generally early in the year). Birding has always been excellent, but with the recent flooding in the channel, new species have been spotted. All you need do is sit on your veranda, particular at dawn and sunset, to enjoy the spectacle. The open skies of Savute make it a perfect place to experience the vast, dark dome of the African night sky. Enjoy views of the Milky Way, Orion and Venus. Discover how Bushmen used the stars to locate the true south. And, using a powerful telescope, gaze on constellations that visitors from the northern hemisphere may never have seen before, including the Southern Cross. The Savute area is also home to some rare Bushman (San) rock art. The paintings are thought to be more than 1 500 years old, and include images of elephant, giraffe, sable and eland, all the more incredible as they are not protected in caves, as is the case with most such art. |
