Tubu Tree Camp is set on Hunda Island, and built in traditional style. Hunda Island is known for its concentrations of wildlife and offers both great game viewing on land, and adventures on the water. The combination of land and water-based activities makes for a more complete Okavango experience.
Tubu Tree Camp is complete with elevated wooden walkways which connect the eight tents on raised platforms – each of which enjoys excellent views of the surrounding floodplains from a private deck. En-suite bathroom facilities and an outdoor shower are standard at Tubu, whilst there is a family unit which has two adjoining tents; separate bathrooms and share a lounge. The main dining and lounge areas and pool are raised to maximise the vistas at Tubu, and an open bar area is shaded by a large marula tree. Wildlife which can be enjoyed at Tubu Tree Camp includes elephant, lion, plains zebra, red lechwe, southern giraffe, tsessebe, and blue wildebeest. Kudu, impala, bushbuck and leopard are also seen in the forested areas. There is an excellent variety of bird species, complete with dry-land species on the larger islands and a number of wetland birds on the floodplains and waterways. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives on Hunda Island. Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnally active animals, such as porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby. Arguably there is no better way of enjoying the crystal-clear waters of the Okavango than by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), which reveal the smaller species and water birds of the region. Although dependent upon water-levels, you can also enjoy excursions in Tubu’s boat, which add to the game viewing experience in the channels further away from camp. This often allows for some good sightings of hippo and crocodile and maybe even the elusive sitatunga antelope. There are also two hides in the area, one of which is located some 20 minutes from camp. This hide can be transformed into a Star Bed for sleep-outs for a maximum of four guests at a time. The hide is also equipped with a long-drop loo. Seasonal fishing (limited supply of basic equipment) is available, on a strict catch-and-release basis. |
