Edo's Camp is located in a private conservancy to the west of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and north of the town of Ghanzi. This Kalahari Lodge is therefore also excellent for self-drive enthusiasts, and is easily accessed from neighbouring Namibia. Edo's Camp accommodates only 8 guests in four large, twin-bedded East African-style Meru tents, set under thatch. The tents are all en suite, with shower, flush toilet, and a bath. The tents also have their own private veranda excellent views of the permanent waterhole. The Camp is justly proud of its success with reintroduced white rhino, with some 13 individuals in the conservancy. One of the activities on offer is tracking the rhino, on foot, with a Bushman guide. At this Kalahari Lodge you can explore the area on morning and afternoon game drives, giving you the chance to see not only white rhino, but also giraffe, plains zebra, brown hyena, kudu, impala and oryx, to name but a few. In the evenings you may also see the elusive aardwolf. Guests discuss the daily activities with their guide, which includes a visit to the San Bushman Village. Here you can become personally involved in the everyday life of the village, including gathering of food and medicines from the bush. You can learn more about this fascinating and ancient, traditional lifestyle - although a little westernised. Social commitment is important to Edo's, and the Camp supports a day-care centre for needy and orphaned children, which is in the conservancy. The centre is funded by private donations and by the camp's guests, as a percentage of the nightly stay is contributed to the day-care facility. |
