Duba Explorers Camp sits in classic Okavango habitat; palm-dotted islands, flood plains and woodland make up the 77,000-acre private (known as the Kwedi Reserve).
Duba Explorers is the only property in this area, and is a wildlife connoisseur’s getaway. The camp has been built on a wooded island, connected to the area by an elaborate set of bridges. This intimate camp consists of five expedition-style tents of light airy canvas on slightly raised decking, each enjoying a view of the surrounding floodplain. Each tent has a small desk and private veranda plus en-suite facilities consisting of flush loo, double basins and indoor shower. Fans and the careful open-air design maintain a comfortable climate for rest and relaxation. The Camp’s main area is set under a sweeping canvas, on raised decking and consists of an open-concept dining and lounge area which opens to the outdoors on all sides. In the evenings, the fire pit is always a popular spot to recount the day’s events. The area allows for a diverse wildlife experience, and there are regular sightings of a good range of species. In addition, elephant and hippo are regulars. Leopard, and nocturnally active species such as Brown hyena can be sighted as well. Birds abound, and the area is somewhat of a birdwatcher’s paradise. Game drives (both day and night) take place in specially converted vehicles – as three of Duba’s unique Toyota Land Cruisers are aptly named ‘Swamp Vehicles’ due to their extra-high suspension and huge tyres – designed, in particular, to traverse the floodplains and channels of the area. These are open-sided, canopied and customised for photographers; and accommodate a maximum of 6 guests. While the focus remains on the most comfortable times of day (early to mid-morning and late afternoon to evening) for drives, you are also able to spend full days out in the field, having brunch or even dinner delivered to the vehicles. Duba Exlorers Camp is a combination activity based camp, allowing guests to explore the area by boat when water levels allow, as well as open game drive vehicle safaris. Guided game walks with licensed, armed guides are available, and these can be combined with boat cruise or game drive. Guests can also enjoy the use of Yoga mats and bands in their luxury tent. Massages are also available (at additional cost). Children are welcome in Camp (from 6 years and older), however younger children will be considered should the Camp be booked out on an exclusive-use basis. There is a carefully designed children’s programme available – allowing them to explore a range of experiences and topics from birding to cooking to art to tracking wildlife. |
