Chief's Camp is in a private concession, on Chief's Island, which is in the central Okavango, and also enclosed by the Moremi Game Reserve. The area is arguably one of the best for game viewing, including plains game, predators and rhino.
Accommodation is in 12 beautifully appointed bush ‘pavilions’, which are set amongst the jackalberry and sausage tree woodland with which the aera abounds. Your accommodation has its own private decks and indoor and outdoor showers. The bed is enclosed by a mosquito net, and your are kept cool by a traditional ceiling fan. Additionally, the pavilion is equipped with a hairdryer, in-room safe, emergency hand held radio and minibar. The central Camp area houses the dining room, bar, curio shop, library and reception. The main deck area is split-level and offers excellent views over the floodplains. The lower level of the deck includes the inviting swimming pool. YOu might choose to indulge in some pampering in the treatment room, which offers a range of treatments using Thalgo and Africology products. These may be booked in camp, and are at an additional cost. There is a communal living room area, which allows for more views, and is a comfortable place to relax. The dining area surrounds a fire pit, allowing you to continue your game viewing whilst enjoying fine cuisine. This part of the Moremi is renowned for the good concentrations of plains-game, elephant and buffalo, in addition to predators such as lion, leopard, and the endangered African wild dog. Both white and black rhino were introduced here in recent years, which allows you a 'Big 5'game viewing experience - which is rare in Botswana. Exploration and game viewing is generally by morning and afternoon game drives, accompanied by accomplished guides. Depending on the water levels, you can also experience the waterways of the Okavango on a mokoro (dugout canoe) excursion - a unique and tranquil way of exploring and game viewing.A very different experience from being on a game drive vehicle, and one that should not be missed! The Okavango's waters start rising in June, and the area transforms to a maze of waterways and lagoons. Chief's Camp also now offers a helicopter excursion (additional cost), which allows you to explore some areas 'off the beaten track'. The helicopter offers comfort with air conditioning, leather seats and a large cabin, which easily accommodates 6 passengers. |
