Khwai River Lodge is set on the edge of a forest in a private concession, which overlooks the floodplains of the neighbouring Moremi Game Reserve. This is an area known for its excellent diversity of wildlife, and beautiful scenery.
The Lodge accommodates its guests in 14 spacious and well appointed tents, each set under a thatched roof, and on a raised wooden deck, allowing for sweeping views of the plains. Each tent boasts air-conditioning, and is equipped with ceiling fan, mini bar, in-room safe, private viewing deck, and all are en suite. Your large private deck is furnished with easy chairs and a hammock - ideal for relaxing, and enjoying the ambience of the area. You can also indulge in a private dinner on your deck. Khwai River Lodge also has a private suite, complete with its own plunge pool, outside bathroom with bath, and twin showers. The suite has a large deck area, which can also be used for private dining. As occupants of the suite, you have a private guide and vehicle for game drives. The Lodge’s main area has a comfortable lounge, bar, and dining room. In addition there is also an observation deck which overlooks the River and camp fire, with seating area. You may also want to enjoy the large and enticiing swimming pool, with large deck on which to relax. Early morning game drives take you into famed Moremi Game Reserve, where you have the chance to see to a good range and variety of wildlife - lions and leopards, hippo, various antelope species, giraffe and buffalo. Equally exciting is the evening game drive, where you get the chance to see some of the nocturnally active species. The open skies above Khwai River Lodge make it a wondeful place in which to experience the vast African night sky. Learn how Bushmen used the stars to locate the true south, and, with the use of a powerful telescope, gaze on numerous constellations. You can also also want to enjoy a morening nature walk along the Khwai River. Set out from camp into a grassland savannah which is dotted with acacia trees. There is nothing quite like being able to touch, hear, smell and even taste nature all around. The Khwai area also has a local village, which guests of the lodge can visit. Here, many women still practice crafts such as basket weaving. Working with dried leaves and dyes such as the deep black pigment of the toothbrush tree root, they transform these humble ingredients into beautiful pieces of intricate artistry. |
