Gomoti Plains Camp is set on the edge of the Gomoti River system. The Gomoti is one of the tributaries of the Okavango, and close to the southern reaches. The Camp named for the Gomoti tree (water fig), which grows alongside waterways in the Okavango delta. As trees go is generally small, but they provide excellent cover for herons and storks.
Accommodation at Gomoti Plains Camp is in 10 luxury tents, of which 2 are luxury family tents and 8 are luxury double tents, all of which have en-suite bathroom facilities. The tents are slightly raised on wooden decks, and are decorated in classic safari style. All accommodation has hot and cold running water, inside and outside showers, flush toilets and twin his and her basins. Electricity in the tents is reserved for lighting and charging of batteries, and computers. The main area of the Camp houses the lounge, dining area and bar, all of which are on a raised platform. The food served at camp is an excellent mixture of local cuisine flavoured and cooked in good old fashion home style cooking. Where possible, dinners are al fresco. The Gomoti Plains are is known for its large concentrations of wildlife, and guests get to travel the waterways by motor boat and mekoro and traverse the Gomoti Plains on extensive game drives. The game drives are conducted in the early mornings and afternoon/evenings at camp. Each drive lasts about three hours, and take you along the river systems and flood plains around the camp. There is a good chance of seeing some of the larger predators, herds of elephant and buffalo and all the plains animals that occur here. Night drives are conducted in the early evening and offer you the chance to see the smaller more nocturnal animals with spotlights. Guests can also participate on walking safaris, which are generally conducted in the morning with armed guides. These walks are leisurely and time is taken to observe the smaller things in the bush that one often misses when on game drives. Walking is naturally weather dependent, or dependent on the condition of the terrain. A mokoro excursion in a dugout canoe poled by an experienced poler is a must. Enjoy exploring the shallower waters of the Okavango – a wonderful way to see the waterways and is tranquil and quiet. Mekoro excursions are also generally done in the morning, but longer day trips are also available on request. |
