Vumbura Plains Camp

Vumbura Plains Camp is situated in a private concession some 60 000 hectares in extent, in the extreme northern Okavango Delta. Vumbura Plains Camp offers a wide variety of habitats and species, enabling you the chance to see the majority of species that occur in the Okavango Delta biome.

Vumbura Plains is a luxury camp has two separate seven roomed camps, each boasting a raised dining , lounge and bar area, built under indigenous trees.  Star-gazing decks, campfires and views across the Delta floodplains are common to both camps.

Each large luxurious room is raised off the ground and has a bedroom, lounge, en-suite bathroom and outdoor shower.  Each room also has a plunge pool and 'sala' - a comfortable area to lie and relax, watching over the floodplain.

Vumbura Plains Camp offers both land and water activities, game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, nature walks with armed guides, mokoro trips and boating excursions.   The concession is home to lion, leopard, elephant, cheetah and buffalo along with all the plains game.

Birding here is incredible – with recorded species too many to record.  In the summer many migrant species are present.  Pel's Fishing Owl is regularly seen, with other specials like Wattled Crane, Slaty Egret, Chirping Cisticola, Little Bee-eater, Fan-tailed Widowbird and Rosy-throated Longclaw spotted too.

The annually flooded grasslands of the Okavango Delta which surround Vumbura Plains Camp are locally referred to as 'melapo' and offer seasonal viewing of elephant, giraffe, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck and reedbuck, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe and Cape buffalo.  Sightings of hippo and crocodile are common in the waterways and predators include the African Wild Dog, several resident prides of lion, leopard, cheetah and the African wildcat.
