Lebala Camp is situated in a private concession, adjacent to the head waters of the Linyanti marshes that form the boundary between Botswana and Namibia's Caprivi Strip. The southerly flowing Kwando River disappears into the vast marshland before emerging as the Linyanti River. Lebala means 'wide open spaces' in Setswana and the scenery is dominated by extensive plains, scattered with palms and tree islands.
Accommodation is in 8 custom designed tents, with unique mosquito net walls, allowing an unobstructed flow of cooling breezes and beautiful views. Each spacious tent has its own viewing deck, bathroom and luxurious double outside showers. Activities at Lebala Camp are in the form of game drives, and walks. Your day starts with an early wake-up call. All game drives have 2 staff in attendance, the guide and his tracker. Game is diverse, with a good selection of plains game, including zebra and giraffe. Elephant are prolific, and predators are commonly seen. This allows for an enhanced game viewing experience. The afternoon drive continues into the early evening. After a leisurely pause for the traditional sun downer, your night drive begins. The mystery unfolds as the creatures of the night, especially the predators, are revealed by spotlight. You are also able to enjoy game walks, as many smaller species of plants and insects, tracks and signs are all easily missed when in a vehicle. The slow pace of the walk and interpretative skills of your guide will open your eyes to a new and fascinating world; you may not even travel very far, as there is so much to learn. However, the walks are often limited in the dry season, if there are too many elephant in the area! |
