Chitabe Camp is situated in a huge private concession, in the south-east Okavango, bordering the famous Moremi Game Reserve, and sandwiched between two rivers - the Gomoti to the east and the Santantadibe to the west.
Habitats here include open floodplains, waterways, marshlands, dry acacia and mopane woodlands, riverine areas and open grasslands. The game in this beautiful region of the Delta is prolific, and you can expect to see everything, from elephant to lion to wild dog. Accommodation at Chitabe Camp is offered in eight meru-style tents, built on raised wooden decks, and set amongst the trees. Tents at Chitabe are spacious and have both indoor and outdoor showers. The main areas comprise a dining area, a pub, a lounge, and a swimming pool.Safaris at Chitabe include day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, bush walks and bird watching. The large populations of impala in this area, means that leopard are often spotted. Buffalo, elephant and lion are common-place, and the birdlife outstanding. Raptors are abundant, including the African Hawk Eagle and the Hooded Vulture which often nests on the island. Game drives often produce families of Ground Hornbill, Greater Honeyguide, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Red-billed Hornbill, Gabar Goshawk and coveys of Red-billed Francolin. |
