Mboma Island Camp is a new eco-safari destination located in the Moremi Game Reserve. Overlooking the Delta’s floodplains, this low-impact camp offers a true back to the wilderness adventure. Moremi is a well-known wildlife hotspot and a protected part of the Okavango Delta. This diverse landscape offers the ideal habitat for a good number of species, from lions to red lechwe, hippos and large herds of elephants.
Mboma is well situated between Moremi’s game rich Savanna and the Delta’s floodplains, and can this offer the best of both safari worlds, games drives on land and authentic Mokoro excursions on the water. The accommodation comprises 5 Meru-style canvas tents, equipped with all the necessary comforts but keeping in tune with their eco ethos. Power is solar, bathrooms have bucket showers and chemical toilets. The Meru tents are joined by a network of lantern-lined pathways. The main areas include the dining tent and a quaint drinks trolley. There is also a clearing with central campfire forming an open-air Boma for evening relaxation. Because Moremi’s ecosystem is so diverse, the team at Mboma have ensured that all aspects of safaris are covered, from mokoro to boating and game drives. The area is also a birder’s paradise. Boating will only take place when the water levels are high enough. Wooden bridges provide the crossings over the waterlogged areas, when you are out on game drives. A highlight is to enjoy the reed-lined channels of the Okavango Delta in the traditional way with a guided mokoro trip. Your guide will quietly pole you through the waters in a dug-out canoe, while you keep a look out for wildlife on the banks. The mokoro station is a short walk from camp. Regrettably, no children under 12 years old can be accommodated at Mboma Island Camp. |
