Lagoon Lodge overlooks the Mudumu National Park in Namibia's Caprivi Strip. This Botswana Lodge is set under towering ebony and marula trees and accommodates 16 guests in eight traditionally styled tents, all of which have inside/outside showers, including a twin room family unit. Resident hippos entertain as you relax on the deck in front of your tent.
The central lodge area consists of a shaded reception area, which continues through to a peaceful lounge, dining and bar area, all under thatch. A small plunge pool is also available to cool off during the heat of the day. The heavily forested site around Lagoon Lodge is home to a wide variety of birds and mammals, while elephant and hippo are normally visible from the camp. Seasonally large herds of elephant drink at the river bank near to the camp in full view of the main deck, while playful spotted - necked otters are commonly seen performing in the water. Lagoon Lodge has a well-earned reputation for big game and large herds of elephant and buffalo, especially in the winter months, when herds of up to a thousand are not uncommon. This enables the guide to communicate points of interest, while the tracker ensures no sightings or tracks are missed. The late afternoon/ night drive allows you the unique opportunity of seeing the local nightlife, which is more active than you might imagine! At Lagoon Lodge the River cruises are conducted on a double deck boat, allowing for more extensive views of this varied area, allowing with some excellent birding, and game viewing. For those guests who enjoy fishing, there is ample room to throw a line in the water while the boat meanders along. Walking in Africa's wild areas is arguably the best way to properly appreciate the natural environment. There is nothing as awe inspiring and humbling as observing wild animals on foot. Many smaller species of plants and insects, tracks and signs are all easily missed when in a vehicle. The slow pace of the walk and interpretative skills of your guide will open your eyes to a new and fascinating world. |
