In order to do this, all of the accommodation units were built out of sand-bags to provide high insulation with a very small carbon footprint.
Whilst the sandbag walls do create a great natural barrier against the extreme summer heat or the chilly winter nights, after two years of operation it has been decided that air conditioning units will make an additional contribution in keeping down the summer temperatures. In order to keep the eco footprint where possible, the Camp will only run the air conditions while the guests are in their rooms from 12:00 to 15:00 and in the evening to cool the room down for the night from 18:00 to 20:00.
